Does anybody use SpectoGard Scour-Chek for scours? It's labeled for pigs, and since it's off label I am having a hard time finding the dosage for lambs/sheep.
I have a Finn baby that had gray diarrhea today! I was in a panic. Light gray. I bought some Scour-Chek but don't know how much to give. BUT, I think I know what may have caused the gray diarrhea. The lambs have been hanging out by the burn pile, which has a lot of ashes. I noticed them nibbling around it the other day. I think the one lamb may have eaten a bunch of ashes and that's what caused the gray diarrhea. Unless somebody knows of something else that would cause gray poops that I'm not aware of? Anyways, he's acting normally otherwise. I gave him Pepto and Nutri-Drench and if it continues I'd like to give him the scour-halt. I guess it has an antibiotic in it for use against e coli.

It is 3 to 5 cc, twice a day until scours are gone and given for one more treatment after the scours have stopped. I hope it is just the ashes, but a quick Google brought up this, but the lamb would be sick so I would think that this isn't it. Black and tarry, yellow to greenish watery OR Grey foul smelling Scours-- Sometimes with blood or tissue- high fever accompanies. Babies to adults: It could be: SalmonellosisGo easy on the Pepto as you really want them to get rid of whatever is in them instead of stopping the scours. Their body needs to purge whatever it is that is causing the problem. Hope all is well

Thanks Babs! I didn't give him anything else today, he just seemed to be doing fine otherwise! He's been nibbling on hay, nursing, running around, etc. I didn't take his temp, but he wasn't acting feverish. I will hold off on giving him anything else. I was thinking about that too, Babs, that if that ashy stuff is in him it needs to come out! I smelled his rear end (oh the things we do for our sheeps) and it smelled like diarrhea, which is foul enough in itself. But I guess salmonella would smell even more foul?

I have never smelled salmonella but it is my understanding that the animal would be "SICK" in addition to the scours so I bet that that is not the cause. Hope he continues to be a normal lamb and that this is just a digestive upset.
